Booking.com in the top 3 of the Dutch R&D Top 30

Great news! Booking.com is now in the top 3 of the Dutch R&D Top 30, with nearly €420 million in R&D investments. Our significant contributions to research and development, including investments in AI, are making a substantial impact on the innovation strength of the Netherlands.

After a few years of absence, TW, in collaboration with TNO Vector and VNO-NCW, has revived the R&D Top 30, a key list showcasing the R&D spending of companies in the Netherlands. For years, this list has been a valuable reference for the industry, with many companies proudly displaying it on their walls.

The 2024 edition brings some changes. The list now includes international companies that conduct significant R&D activities in the Netherlands, not just those with headquarters here. This broader scope provides a more complete picture of R&D’s impact on the Dutch economy, both directly and indirectly.

The top 5 for 2024 includes some familiar names. ASML remains the undisputed leader with €2.8 billion in R&D spending in the Netherlands. Philips follows in second place, despite having sold part of its business. Booking Holdings, the parent company of Booking.com, debuts in third place with €419.7 million in R&D investments in the Netherlands. KPN and Johnson & Johnson round out the top 5.\

While ASML dominates the list, other companies like Nexperia show impressive growth. The R&D Top 30 provides a valuable overview of the major players in research and development in the Netherlands.

Onno Zoeter, Head of Booking AI Research, will participate in today’s launch event alongside VNO-NCW, TNO, and other innovative companies such as ASML, Philips, and SMART Photonics. Together with our partners and universities, we continue to build a strong tech ecosystem in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Europe.
